URSB COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HISTORY

The Rizal State College in Binangonan (RSCB) founded in 1998, initially offered three (3) undergraduate level degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) major in Management, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Economics and Cooperatives; a ladderized program of Diploma in Computer Secretarial (DCS) leading to Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) and a ladderized program for Associate in Accounting Technology (AAT), Bachelor in Accounting Technology (BAT), and Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) under the Institute of Cooperatives, Economics and Management (ICEM) with more than 1,000 students and with 32 strong faculty members headed by Ms. Jean R. Gamboa as the Institute Head (1998-2000). The Institute was housed in the three-story building, the Casimiro M. Ynares Sr. Building.

The Passage of Republic Act 9157 on June 7, 2001, which lapsed into law on August 11, 2001, and took effect on October 22 of the same year, gave birth to the University of Rizal System integrating the Rizal State College, the Rizal Polytechnic College and the Rizal Technological University Antipolo Annex, thus, renaming RSCB to University of Rizal System Binangonan (URSB). In 2001, in addition to ICEM, another institute was created, the Institute of Accountancy which offered the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Both institutes were handled then by Mr. Vergel J. Montesines.

In 2003, the Institute of Cooperatives, Economics and Management (ICEM) was converted into College of Business (COB). In 2005 and 2008 the BSBA program offering was revised with new specializations: Human Resource Development Management (HRDM), Financial Management (FM), Marketing Management (MM), Operations Management (OP) and Business Economics (BE). From 2007-2012, the College of Business was headed by Prof. Grenelita DC Bilbao; Dr. Ariel M. Plantilla was the Dean of the College during the Academic Year 2012-2013 and Prof. Nery T. Vivas from AY 2013-2016.

In accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994” and by virtue of Resolution No. 153-2000, the Government Recognition is granted to URS Binangonan to operate the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA majors in Marketing Management, Human Resource Development Management, Financial Management, Business Economics) and Bachelor of Science in Office Administration programs effective Academic Year 2013-2014 with Government Recognition No. 072 series 2013 and Government Recognition No. 097 series 2013 respectively.

The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) has awarded the BSBA program Level II recognition and the BSOA program has passed the Preliminary Survey Visit. Since 2016 to present, the College is headed by Dr. Joanne S. Concepcion as the Dean assisted by four (4) program heads: Dr. Eden C. Santos for HRDM, Prof. Myra M. Salindong for MM, Prof. Gloria P. de Leon for FM and Dr. Irene E. Abe for BSOA. The College is composed of 24 strong faculty members (17 specialists/core faculty members and 9 general education faculty members) and are holding academic rank as follows: 3 Associate Professor II; 5 Associate Professor I; 2 Assistant Professor IV; 4 Assistant Professor III; 1 Assistant Professor II; 1 Assistant Professor I; 2 Instructor III; 3 Instructor II and 3 Instructor I.

The growing number of students taking up business education prompted the College of Business to sustain its objective of providing necessary knowledge, theoretical as well as practical in-depth training for individuals seeking employment in the field of business and office administration. The COB students are skilled and competent as evidenced by their consistent winnings in National Business Idea Development Award (BIDA), passing the National Certificate III (NC) for Bookkeeping, Events Management and Customer Service. Students as affiliates of national student organizations participated regularly in different local, regional and national seminars and trainings which boast their knowledge, skills and competencies. One of the graduates of BSBA major in Marketing Management is a regional finalist in the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP). The faculty members and students are also engaged in research and extension projects which aim to uplift and improve the lives of our nearby community members.

The College of Business – BSBA program is consistently awarded as one of the Top Performer Courses in Board and other Government Examinations by the URS PRAISE from 2016 to present. The College continuously sustains its linkages with government, non-government organizations and private institutions as partners in producing competent and committed entrepreneurs, business professionals, and technical people who are globally competitive, quality oriented and socially responsive.
